What You Need to Look When Hiring an LTL Trucking Company

This entry was posted on January 20, 2012

If you think that choosing an LTL trucking company based on the lowest cost is the best way to do find the right carrier, you are going to find that like many other things this may not be the best idea. What you are more likely to find is that when you choose your trucking carrier in this manner, it will end up costing you more than it will save. Many of the companies that offer super low prices offer very poor service.

Reliability Is Key in Finding a Good LTL Trucking Service

If the LTL trucking company you hire cannot get your shipments delivered in a timely manner or in good condition, you are likely to end up losing customers, which is going to cost you far more than paying a little extra for shipping. We have created a nationwide network of high quality, dedicated LTL carriers that are not only reasonably priced but offer superior quality services for every customer no matter how big or small their shipment is.

What Exactly Is Zone Skipping with Reference to LTL Shipping?

This entry was posted on January 19, 2012

While you are going to find for the most part that LTL shipping companies and parcel carriers tend to compete with each other for business, there are some companies who still use them in combination with each other. The best way to explain how this works is that you can use the LTL carrier to move your freight to the appropriate state and then switch to a parcel carrier to deliver it to your customers. This is referred to as “Zone Skipping” and you will find that not all carriers offer this as they see it as a conflict of interest.

Many of the Carriers in Our Network Offer Zone Skipping

However you will find that depending on which of many of the different carriers in our network you use, you may be able to take advantage of this type of service.  If it is used properly, zone skipping can help you get your products delivered to your customers in a shorter time frame as compared to relying solely on the LTL shipping companies to carry them from your loading docks to their final destination.

If you are responsible for preparing the LTL freight for your company and making sure it is ready for shipping, you are going to find that just like most forms of shipping, there are three basic forms of packing that are acceptable. The first is putting it all on one or more pallets as this is perhaps the most common method, all you have to do is stack your boxes or products on the pallet and plastic wrap them in place securely.

Another method is to build a crate for the item or items you are shipping; you can even build the crate onto or around a pallet to make it easier to move around. As a last resort, you can put everything into a cardboard box and hope for the best as this type of packaging does not lend itself to much in the way of protection. For more information on packing your freight, contact us and we will put you in touch with a shipper that you can talk to about their packaging requirements.
